Born in 228 A.D. in the city of Luoyang, the capital of Cao Wei, Sima Yu was the fifth and youngest daughter of the politician Sima Shi and his first wife, Lady Xiahou Hui.

At the age of six, her mother was killed by poison; the rumors pointed to none other than her father, during a power vacuum in the kingdom. As a result, Yu's mother figure during the time in which her father took his second wife, Lady Wu (whom he later divorced), Yu's predominant mother figure was none other than Sima Ruan, her second-oldest sister. In time, Sima Shi married his third and final wife, Lady Yang Huiyu, who was well-loved by her stepdaughters for her wisdom and nurturing personality.

Though she is introverted and ladylike by nature, Yu holds a powerful determination, used as a weapon when needed. Born with an illness that's seemingly lessened over the years, she also has knowledge of combat, presented with a sword by her father as a gift. Her appearance gives the picture of a beautiful, demure, and elegant young noblewoman as she is approached by suitors from time to time (though they are always rejected.)

As a child, Yu was sheltered and coddled by her family, being the baby and having a dreaded illness that barred her from strenuous activity. Though already bright and curious-terribly curious-she was very lonely. She also did not learn of the truth behind her mother's death until she was in her late teens.

Growing up, Yu's illness dwindled away, allowing her more access to the world around her. She was the kind of person who always searched for the good in people, despite who they are and what they may have done. She was very warm-hearted and loving, holding her family close to her heart and being the filial daughter to her father.

Times have changed Sima Yu, now at the age of nineteen into twenty, shaped by the truth and the bitterness of the world around her. Though with less warmth and gentleness that she had always brought forth as second nature,
